As The Year ends

Two weeks ago, my sports forecast was at 90%, if I knew Arsenal were playing their young side I should have sided against them.

Last weeks ends twin lost of Arsenal & Liverpool gave MU some space in re-claiming the Premiership.

Mayweather's win over Hatton yesterday confirms my initial premise that boxing in North America is more competitive. Will they do it again? will Hatton go back to Manchester and call it quits?

The Celtics are having a good streak this early, will it be all to way to the playoffs?

The Holidays are approaching.
I would have to stop my sports activities for a while.
The next few weeks will entail a lot of traveling, family bonding and eating.

And Collage football & Basketball !

End of October

For the record "Baby Ruth" candy bars have nothing to do with "Babe Ruth", the former Boston Red Sox.

When the movie "Fever Pitch" or "The Perfect Catch" was being shot, the Sox's haven't won a World Series since 1918. The curse of the Bambino lasted for 86 years. They finally won it in 04 .

Red Sox beat Rockies to win their second World Series in four years.
Now are the Boston Red Sox going for a dynasty ?

I thought this year's series will at least go back to Fenway Park .
It was a complete sweep. A shame for the Colorado.
I wanted my October madness be an exiting one, and not a sweep.

The last few chapters of John Grisham's " A Painted House" best describe how most baseball fans feel as October ends.

October end's , Baseball ends.

Basketball begins.

The Best Sport Movies

I love sports movies despite anticipating how they end.

The Karate Kid - awesome ! Wax in wax out, The moment of truth.
The Mighty Ducks - superb !

The Hoosiers (1986 Best Shot) My all time Favorite sport movie. I remember watching the movie in a packed house.Everybody was standing and shouting during the last few seconds of the game este the movie. I felt like watching an actual basketball game.

Last few years there were a couple notable sports movies like the "Goal", which despite having a typical sport movie theme, it was nice.

The " Perfect Catch" ( Fever Pitch) which chronicles the Boston Red Socks failure to win the World Series since 1918 ( "Curse of the Bambino") and finally winning it in 2004.
Okey its a romantic comedy ( Drew Barrymore) hehehe...

Last Sunday race at Interlagos was a movie writers dream.

Ferrari last won the both championships in 2004 with Shumi.
The last three years have been a struggle.

With two races left, I wanted Alonso to take the championship because I don't want Hamilton to win it on his rookie year. That will be an insult to Rubens, Fisi, and David.

Kimi was down 7 points, needs a victory in Sao Paulo and
leave the rest to everybody to decide it.

My hope ran hight during the 1st lap, who would have thought Hamilton would be 8th, and then was it 18th?

For the whole race I was hopping and gasping for air.

Kimi finishes the race at P1.
I was so happy Hamliton was just behind Kimi & Massa as they crossed the flag,
he was a full lap down. From his cockpit, his championship snatched with in his full view.

Then the long wait. Alsonso finished almost a minute down.

For a few minutes, even if Kimi won the race, there were still chances that he wont win it.
What if Fernando slowed down and gave Lewis a position?
Its called teamwork, but McClaren don't know the word team work.

Then finally from the Pit radio ;

" It's all over Mate! It's all over! from my calculations we won the championship by a point!"
(quote might need correction)

Finally Kimi wins it !

Viva Ferrari !!!!

F1 Season Thriller

The Formula One season comes to an end this weekend at Interlagos , Sao Paulo,Brazil.
The 2007 Drivers championship will be decided at the last race.

I will be watching the qualifying and race both at midnight, which means I would be at bed late Sunday and I would be dragging my self to office on Monday. Even if the Interlagos was a non deciding race I would still watch it in the middle of the night. Next year most Asian races will be held at night so that European viewers would not watch the races at dawn. Go figure !

I hope it would be a red Ferrari on the last lap , and its Kimi Raikkonen's car.
If he wins the last race , he would have won 6 races and to me that makes him the world champion.

Viva Ferrari !

Also this weekend the Moto GP circus will be next door in Sepang ,
I'm still thinking if I'm going to watch .

Last week I was in Manila for a short break, I went for a short jog at CCP, Manila Bay, fulfilled my craving for Jollibee Spaghetti and a large cold galss of Royal True Orange.
I bought a MP Nike shirt, a Phoenix Suns and LA Lakers Jersey.

How was you weekend?

The mother of all weekends.

I love weekends !

Friday 6pm.
I started my weekend by playing pickup basketball against boys half my age.
I won three games, scored a handful.
I drank 1.5 liters of H2O and 0.5 liters of Gatorade in just one hour of playing, shit I'm old.

Saturday 6am.
I went trekking at Gasing Hill, the usual but I think I peaked last week I was gasping for air!
Its was 2 hours of uphill hell. I had breakfast at a Chinese resto, went home , took a shower , browsed the sports page and passed out.

Saturday 2pm.
Woke up for this, the weather was fine in Shanghai, and I was confident Ferrari was thinking of strategy instead of P1.
Okey P1 Hamilton, who cares !

Went to the mall did my errands, bought an England & MU shirt, went for a Filipino resto for dinner.

Saturday 9 pm.
Finally MU had broken the 1-0 margins, they had a rampage of four goals and are top of the table.

Sunday 7 am.
The moment of truth, the wait is over ! The Will to Win.
My friends and I wanted all the prelim fights to finish by KOs, we didn't care who won ,
get on with the main event!
As I have said The Pac had some problems, he even had a hard time making the weight.
It was an ok fight, not boring but average, the Pac even managed to wave to the crowd after a few rounds. A lot have been predicted and said, but in the end the Pacman won!

Sunday 12pm.
After not getting my expectations with Pacman & Barrera, I went for a long lunch out with my friends. Shanghai was next, but I wont waste my time watching Hamilton winning the championship. The lunch was good, but from the Bar the volume was too load for me, Hamilton P1 in so or so laps. I went home and ok lets see what happens.

Lap 20 something, Kimi is behind Lewis, Lewis's lap times are falling, Kimi is catching up, Kimi on the slipstream, Kimi on the outside, Kimi late on the brakes,
Kimi leads the Chinese Grand Prix !

Hamilton goes for the Pits, Lewis loses it at Pit lane entrance, Lewis is in the gravel, Lewis is deep in the gravel, the marshals pushes the car, its still stuck, Ron Dennis is in shambles, Hamilton is out of the car ! It's game over for Hamilton's Chinese Grand Prix !

A knelt , two fist on the air, my eyes on the McClaren on the gravel !
I believe in God !

So it will be decided in Sao Paulo in two weeks !

Sunday 6pm.
After taking a power nap, I went to gym then played two hours of badminton.
I lost all my games! but I not a sour loser when it comes to badminton, my stomach wins !

MU wins, Pacman wins, Ferrari wins !
How was you weekend?

The Will 2 Win

The Will to Win, the most anticipated rematch between Pacquiao and Barrera.
A rematch that most fans think is over due and it is a rematch now unnecessary.
I for one would prefer a fight between Pacquiao and Marquez,
since the later has the 130 lbs belt.

Prediction by my brain; Morales by a 12 round split decision.

Prediction by my heart Pacman by KO , the round does not matter.

I'm a big Pacman fan, but I think this time he will loose because all the distractions he has.

His training was fully covered by Philboxing.com courtesy of Ronnie you know who, the journalist who covers Phil sports who thinks he knows everything ( he wants to be a Quinito) .
The media reports every move Pacman does, from the time he wakes up, where he jogs, what he eats etc. Not to mention the fans who pest around his training camp, and the celebs and politocos who are now making their way to Vegas.

Marco have been silently training, even his official website is not updated ( his recent loss) and Pinoys are lording it over on his forum.

Also, consider the stats after they last meet:

After winning against Barrera in 03, Manny next fight was a draw with Marquez, a win over a Thai called 3K Battery, and a lost to Morales.
Pacman is currently on a five consecutive winning streak.

After loosing to Manny in 03, Marco had a six consecutive winning streak before loosing his last fight to Marquez.

By using the "the law of averages", Pacman is due for a loss, and Marco is due for a win.

But as I said , my heart goes for Pacman.

I'm calling my cable operator now.

Special One

The big news news this week is the mutual parting of the "special one" and Chelsea.
I'm a big time hater of Jose Mourhinho and I support any team that plays Chelsea.
But the truth is, I feel sad loosing Jose and I think Roman made a big mistake.
Chelsea were on their way for a dynasty and you don't sack your coach for a few bad games.
You can not buy silver ware Roman ! Sir Alex is so successful at MU but he also had lean years.

Now Chelsea is a boring club again.
No one can replace Mourhinho's character that brought trophies to the team.

But I can suggest one similar coach for them, its " Bob Knight" go wiki him !

Another 1-2 & Another MU win !

Ferrari does it again with 1 - 2 finish.

MU wins with a single goal but what important is the draw games of Liverpool & Chelsea.
The gunners and city were fortunate.
MU could have toped the table this week.
That's the joy of football, you don't only watch your team but the rest of the weekends fixtures as well because it affects your team's standings.

Ferrari are 07 World Champions !

As I have written in my earlier post's, Mclaren were obviously cheating.
The exclusion and fine were peanuts ,
They should have excluded the Drivers as well.

Four races to go!

Ba de ya - Sports in September

After Maria crashed out prematurely at Flushing Meadows, I did not bother to watch th Open for the rest of the week. The Womens and Men winners were predictable, I wish I bet against my heart and I would be a few bucks richer by now.

England got all six full points this week with out the stars and veteran Michael Owen providing the goals. The other euro & olympic qualifier's were boring but the Brazil tour of the US & Mexico were interesting. I want Brazil to lose this friendlies !

The Vuelta a España, the last grand tour for the year is just a exiting as the Giro & Tour de France. I hope somebody from Discovery attack this last few days, Robobank are too consistent this year. Also in a few days its the UCI world championships ! Cant wait.

The World Cup of Rugby in France is also on. I hope the All Blacks will have a good tournament. ( Fifa Womens World Cup is also on in China this month).

As I write this, Ferrari are on there way to clinch this years World Championship.
The FIA hearing is currently on the way I hope Mclaren will be punished this time.

On a sad note, Steve Fosset is still missing at the moment.
I hope all the records he made will be useful in helping him survive.
I still feel he is alive !

Beat that!

I finished an adventure run last Sunday. It was a combination of road runs, river crossing, trekking, and mountain climbing. I only trained over a week for it that included 10k bikes, badminton, basketball and trekking. Also ,I did carbo loading & sports drink hydration, had zero caffeine the day before. Although I had a huge sleep dept, I still managed to finish above the bottom half way above my expectation of just finishing.

I was also at Sepang last Saturday for the 12 hour endurance race. Check the photo above.

To cap the weekend , Ferrari had a one two, and MU finally won their 1st fr the season.

Beat that!

Pacman Roaches Ara, Back in Manila

All this distractions are designed for Pacman to loose his bout with Barrera on October.

Pacman will sour grape blame all the distractions and will ask a no holds barb Three peat Fight with Barrera for a final decision, Before the 3rd fight, Pacman will Fight a warm up card.

And we, specially me who pays big bucks for his fights are the losers.

Mani Mani lang yan !

WALA KANG KATULAD TALAGA MONEY

Mclaren are Cheaters !

I think Flavio was right, Mclaren are cheating from the data they have from Ferrari.
This is based on the short and commanding improvements they have gained despite using Bridgestone for only a few months.

Check the table below and compare.
BMW despite improving have not won a race, Renault took a dive, Honda is sinking.

Mclaren have not only improved but won a couple of races and some 1-2's.
That is enough evidence, you can not improve overnight.

They have data from Ferrari, that is enough to punish then.

Its like I stole your watch but I'm not using it so why punish me ?
Common FIA !!!!

2006 2007
1 Renault Michelin Mclaren + 2
2 Ferrari Bridgestone Ferrari = 0
3 Mclaren Michelin BMW + 2
4 Honda Michelin Renault - -3
5 BMW Michelin Williams + 3
6 Toyota Bridgestone Red Bull + 1
7 Red Bull Michelin Toyota - -1
8 Williams Bridgestone Suprer Aguri + 3
9 Toro Rosso Michelin Honda - -5

Tour de dope 07

I'm a great Discovery fan since the time of US Postal team.
I am glad they currently lead the tour in team & the individual standings.
Contador & Liepheimer made good and guarding Rasmussen on yesterdays stage with Popo helping out in the climb.

I'll be more happy if they have taken the lead with out Rasmussen being withdrawn.
There is really something wrong with procedures in doping in the tour and thats bad.
Rasmussen is champion bec. he attacked, chased and stayed with the top ten.

Too bad it ends this way.

European Grand Prix

European Grand Prix

As I write this, I am not relying on any stat book. The last time I have watched a red flag race was Monaco 2000, The last time a race was so soaked was Brazil 2002, where Giancarlo won a race after a week of reviewing the race.

But this is a race best remembered for the emotions at the podium, You can see Massa & Alonso fighting it out with words. Typical of Alonso he is not Humble when he wins, its just pure bragging. Fernando you will not be a 7 times world champion. To make matter worse Schumi presented the constructors trophy at the podium to Ron Dennis.

This race hurts, I thought we can have an advantage with Hamilton trying to prove that "Murphy's law " can be false.

There is something wrong with the team at Ferrari, The reliability was always great before.
Did Massa slowed down during the few laps before the rain?
Did he thought he was on his way and took care of the car very early?
Were the last set of tires not balanced and the wings were not adjusted right?

After all the drama its a mere two points advantage McClaren.

I can live with that for the next two weeks.

A busy weekend for UK in Sports & Pilipinas

It must have been a nightmare for the UK police & emergency services,
I wonder how much was the cost.

The British Grand Prix in Silverstone, The Wimbledon finals, and the Tour de France,
All in one weekend.

Another superb win by Kimi! and the resurgence of Ferrari. After the alleged cheating of McClaren in stealing some important technical data and using them for their own advantage.
Now that the alleged culprits have been identified, Ferrari have come back to their winning ways.

If I had known that alleged Ferrari Traitor Nigel Stepney was in the Philippines last week,
I would have asked some one to kidnap him and forced him eat "Balut" !

* * *
Who won Wimbledon ? Ahh ?I don't know , I was a sleep after the Tour de France.
How does Robbie McEwen win those sprint stages , Damm he is really good !

* * *

Finally I saw the Team Pilipnas Play a game in the 29th Jones Cup on ESPN.
The Jones cup is one of the prestigious tournament in Basketball where teams are composed of clubs or national teams and played in Taiwan.

Last weekends game was played in front of a crowd composed mostly of Filipino expats.
This have inspired the Team Pilipinas with a 10 Point victory over Iran and a 20 point plus win over Tiawan.

Also I have read that two Filipinos have won world championship belts in WBC & IBF.

This weekend are rare for a Sports fan Like me!

Italian Treble

At last my punting skills have worked last weekend!

A Ferrari one two after almost a year.
Kimi showed he can still hold on to his race seat.
Kimi had a superb start and precision pit stop, but was not impressive during qualifying.
Kimi needs to improve !

After suffering from the rain the doctor resurrects in Holland,
starting from p11 to P1 with four laps to go !!

Rossi's Problem

You don't need to be Technical Director to see whats wrong with Rossi.
He needs to change those Michelin's!

* * *
Another bad race for him in England, rain or not!

* * *

Ferrari will bounce back this weekend,
I'm sure Kimi will do some thing to save his $50Million a year salary !

Who won the last two races in Canada and Indianapolis?
I don't know. I was sound as asleep.
Who wants to watch a race at 1am in the morning.

Maybe the races in America should be held at midnight American time.
So that we can watch the race here in Asia just after lunch.

knock knock Bernie!

The problem is, Asia saved Formula 1 financially,
now we have to watch the Asian race's at night starting next year.

Tsk tsk

Asian 9 Ball Tour

The Guinness Asian 9 Ball Tour goes to Genting High Lands this weekend.
Catch our Filipino Pro's Battle it out.

Current World Pool Champion Filipino Rony Alcano will be playing.

Unfortunately I will be in Manila this weekend.

Catch it on Star Sports Live !

Another weekend to forget

Another weekend to forget.

The past weekend was a disaster for me, 1st Maria lost the the semis at Roland Garros, Pacman's brother lost to Sotto in a 7 round KO in New York.

The Barcelona Moto GP was the most superb GP I had ever watched, with 8 laps to go you could not count the lead changes, It could have been perfect if The Doctor won. Please change those Michelin Tires Rossi !!!!

Disaster in the Ferrari Pit, is that the fastest Kimi could drive?
Theres nothing wrong with the Car Kimi ! dont blame the car, as if your blaming the team!
Masa should re read the FIA rules !

Whats wrong with Ferrari?
Ross have gone fishing and Jean is busy with his new wife!
Thats whats wrong with Ferrari, Jean's wife is a jinx, the moment she started attending races Farrari have suffered !

The only consolation I had was Fedex not winning on clay !
Yup, I dont want him to win the French Open ever!
Nadal did a good job for 3 hour's + 10 min!

Ultimate Sports Trivia

Did you know that....

The Worlds oldest & actively contested Trophy in the word is the America's Cup, its 20 years older than the FA Cup, 45 years older than the Olympics.

The longest winning streak is 131 years by the New York Yacht Club for defending and winning the Americas cup from 1852-1983.

Now you know !

Mugello Tifosi

Finally “the doctor” won once again last Sunday at Mugello.

Moto GP is the only motor sport I know where fans can mob the winners after the race, isn’t it fantastic?

The Tifosi are the greatest and it’s good to see them rush to the podium running and riding their bikes.

You can almost feel how great it is to watch any GP race in Italy when fire works erupted during the warm up lap.

It was also nice to see Sumi attending the race.

The Doctor Is In!

* * *

Still in Italy, I haven't watched the final stage of the Giro, Euro sports have changed thier coverage to the Louis Vitton Cup, where I think a best of 9 series is to much for Luna Rossa.

MU 07 Review

Its superb that the Red Devil's have won the premiership this season.

But the second leg defeat with Milan for the final was shocking, I did not bother to watch the second leg because I was confident with MU having a good first Leg result.

I spent 50 bucks for a jersey, 5 for parking and 70 bucks on beer to watch the FA cup final.
I was caught in an traffic jam after the game at 1am, but that's ok.
What really pissed me off was the Giggs goal that wasn't counted by the ref at the start of extra time.

Chelsea is lucky to have 2 silver ware this year, while the Gunners & Liverpool have nothing new to display on their cabinet and to write in their record books.

End of May

With the football season over, its been a boring few nights lately.
I don't even watch sports center now since there's nothing new, even the transfer window gossips are not that exiting.

* * *
The NBA post season is coming up with the Spurs in the finals, and as always we have to wait the East playoffs to finish. I pity the Jazz, a franchise which could have dominated the league for the decade or so but have faltered in the post season.

I believe who ever wins it will come from the East.
I think the Pistons are just 6 wins away from another world championship.

* * *

What keeps me up late ( than you for EuroSports) this days is the GIRO.
Its exiting how Danilo De Luca have been defending his pink jersey
despite all the attacks on the mountains this past few days.
Also notable are the "domestics" of Liquigas who have been leading & protecting De Luca from the "peloton".

* * *

Speaking of the GIRO, The Moto GP goes to Mugello this weekend.
I hope Rossi can go to the tire shop and changes his Michelin's.

* * *
Lastly, I hope Maria Sharapova does well this few days on clay.
Have a good one !

Monaco 07

Monaco 07

Ok Kimi kissed the barriers on qualifying and Felipe was off by 0.241 seconds from pole.

I don’t know why when it comes to Monaco; Ferrari seems are out of it.

They haven’t won in Monaco since 2001.

If they can not resolve Monaco they will have more trouble next year, with Singapore and Spain having street circuits.

Formula 1 after four Races

2007 Drivers Championship after four races

L.Hamilton 30

F.Alonso 28

F.Massa 27

K.Räikkönen 22

2007 Constructors Championship after four races

McLaren Mercedes 58

Ferrari 49

Looking at the 2007 F1 championship after four races, overrated Lewis Hamilton leads the standings which I think he does not deserve. This is due to the fact that Bernie and his gang changed the rules a few years ago to handicap Shumi who was winning races on every given Sunday.

How can Hamilton lead the championship with out even winning a race?

How can Hamilton lead the championship with out even getting a pole position?

Massa has won two, and was on pole tree times.

Go figure!

***

As I said Hamilton is over rated, he is lucky he is driving a McLaren.

Let Adrian Sutil drive that car and he can get it to the podium.
